How we lose our freedom

There are many ways in which we lose our freedom. Material things are one of them. We develop the habit of depending on ‘X,’ thing so much that if we don’t have that ‘thing,’ we feel incomplete. Some go as far as getting anxious if they don’t have that ‘thing,’ they lose their sense of self, their inner peace, their freedom.

What happens when we develop such dependence on external ‘things’? We become disconnected from our source, the eternal being from which we come from. This disconnection then creates a void within our being that we attempt to fill in as many ways possible not realizing that no matter what we do, nothing outside can ever fill it. That is because we are not meant to be filled from the outside in, that’s backward thinking. We must fill ourselves from within, reaching deep to the place where the Creator has placed eternity, joy, abundance.

We must also be mindful that not everyone’s spiritual evolution is the same; there are those who require some form of external input in order to feel complete. There is nothing wrong with this, so long as it is done with positive intention in a healthy non-abusive manner. Balance is key to anything on earth, without balance there is illness.

Developing a strong foundation within our being to our eternal source helps us navigate life in a peaceful manner. As the Buddha once said, ‘Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.’
