Honesty with oneself

Why is it difficult for some of us to be honest? Naturally, there are various reasons. For me, it’s been a matter of environment and habit combined. I can say that it was affected by having parents who didn’t understand or didn’t know how to listen. Whenever I shared something and was honest I would get judged or criticized for it. This made me no longer want to share anything with them or twist the truth, especially if I wanted to get something because they wouldn’t understand if I told them the truth. For their credit, I will say that they did the best they could and that my perception wasn’t always right.

As an adult, I am now learning to be more transparent and stand by myself in my beliefs regardless if I am the only one standing. This doesn’t always happen; however, sometimes I still default to people-pleasing. I know it’s due to self-esteem issues that I continuously work on healing.

But why is it important to be honest? Integrity. We must learn to walk with integrity and honor who we are, these are traits of people with high vibration, people who don’t need to lurk in the shadows afraid of the light within their being. People who aren’t afraid to be who they are in a world that will try to fit you in a box only to chew you up and spit you back out. This is the path of heart, that is why honesty is important, most of all, we must be honest with ourselves.

If we cannot be honest with ourselves then we most certainly cannot be honest with others, we then get caught up in the same game as all the other sheep never fulfilling our true purpose in life. To be at peace with ourselves and the life we lead we must be willing to look in the mirror and accept all our actions, regardless of whether they are perfect or not, we must take responsibility for all of it. This is true power, true love, heart. We must remember who we are and leave all else behind in order to embody the light, truth, love.

  1. Honesty is a very valuable trait that not everyone has, but can honesty be developed in a person that doesn’t have it already?
