Responsible adult

“If you could kick the person in the pants responsible for most of your trouble, you wouldn’t sit for a month.”-Theodore Roosevelt

Part of being an adult is taking responsibility for the commitments that one has made-at least-this is my sentiment. Although I’m legally considered an adult, in my heart I still feel child-like, I enjoy the freedoms of not having responsibilities and have my parents take care of me, but I know this is not realistic. I’ve had to learn that part of growing up means being responsible, doing things because you have to and not necessarily because you want to. Take exercising for example, sometimes I would rather just stay home than go to the gym. Then there’s the New Year’s resolutions I made to myself-I have to stick to them- because if I don’t honor my own word then who will?

Being responsible also means taking care of oneself, taking care of your own health, social, spiritual, etc. it’s just part of adult life, you’ve got to do what you got to do if you want to live in harmony. I’m single, so this is easier for me considering that I don’t have a family to look after. Parents, I don’t know how you do it, my hats off to you. In the meantime I still very much connect with my inner child more than my adult me, but I’m doing what I can to quote unquote ‘grow up’ responsibly.
