Social justice

“The greatest movement for social justice our country has ever known is the civil rights movement and it was totally rooted in a love ethic.”-Bell Hooks

I see all sorts of outrage and anger over unjust social events such as murder trials, politics, corrupt companies, and such. It is not that anger is ‘wrong’ so to speak, it’s that it is misdirected, and more often than not people come from their ego and not from their heart when they speak or feel such anger towards injustices.  I believe that such anger, when it comes from the heart, can be used as a powerful catalyst for social change.

When we learn how to properly direct this anger, we will no longer be fighting ‘against’ something or someone; we will be fighting ‘for’ something/someone. I say this because, as the saying goes, ’What you resist persists.’ It is the law of the universe, and that is one force which cannot be denied. If we truly feel the need to make changes in our communities, the wisest way to go about it would be through awareness of the laws that create such events in the first place. We must remember that behind all the chaos and imbalance lays the very basis of all creation; energy.

From this standpoint, it is no wonder that the war on drugs is failing, because the system is fighting against it. What can happen instead is create an atmosphere, a community, where the use of drugs will not be needed, a place where people can deal with their personal challenges openly without shame, guilt, or any of the other emotions that prevent someone from reaching out for help. We must get to the root of the problem and create a solution from there. Because in life, love will always triumph, we must shine a light where there is darkness. Fighting fire with fire does not work, it just creates war, this world has numerous examples of this, we are in a new era where consciousness is being raised, now is the time to let go and let love.
