What is a second?

It is all in the eye of the beholder I say

For a child at play, it is an entire day

For the unfortunate man on the street, it is an unending day

What is a second?

A mere moment of eternity’s work at play

It is the seedling popping out in May

It is the last of the sunlight’s ray

What is a second?

The hair on an elder’s head turning gray

The woman weeping in great dismay

And the moment she kneels down and begins to pray

What is a second?

You are the second

You are the second, the first, and the third

You are what you sought now, before, and after

The second is you.
