“The media’s the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power. Because they control the minds of the masses.”- Malcolm X
The media, when used properly, may be used to empower people. When used for control, which has been the norm for many years, disempowers people. Practicing awareness allows you to see the kind of message that the medium wants you to mimic. One of the basic messages that I see often is the portrayal of ‘good’ and ‘bad’. In reality, in spiritual terms, this does not exist. There is no difference between ‘good’ and ‘bad’, they exist simultaneously in harmony, one with the other. To be in a state of bliss you are able to transcend this illusion of good and bad and simply see it for what it is and accept it, drama free. At this point you become the witness, detached from outcome you live in the bliss of love and all that is, happy and content with merely being, existing.
This form of thought is difficult to grasp, particularly in a society that constantly projects images as either good or bad. Let’s take the daily News, for example, they report on things that occur in a neighborhood and label them as ‘tragedies,’ but are they really tragedies? Has there ever been a time in the history of the world wear death does not exist? Violence? No, especially not American history, it all started with Columbus slaughtering Indians so that he could take over the land. This is just part of human history. Our power lies in how we choose to react, out of fear, or out of love. The media teaches to act out of fear, anger, and greed.
Let’s take the spiritual masters who walked the earth, most of them have preached love and acceptance. Christ, being nailed to a cross, asked the lord to forgive the offenders. He was acting out of love, he understood spiritual laws and not only talked the talk, but walked it.
Before arriving on earth we as souls chose to come into the world during the time that we did in order to complete whatever karmic obligation we had, once done, we left the body. Our souls are eternal, and our bodies merely vessels with which we have the ability to create along with the creator. Once we grasp this truth, we become free to do with our lives as we see fit and lose the fear of ‘losing’ things such as money, jobs, relationships, etc. It is all part of the cosmic play of life.
One step further we can then stop judging one another and condemning people for the roles which they play on earth and learn to love and accept one another. Instead of throwing punches we accept and love, thus transforming the energy of the person who committed the trespass, which in essence is against themselves. This helps stop the cycle of anger and hatred from continuing over and over, generation after generation. We will learn how to help one another heal and become liberated souls. Share love, not hate.
